Mold is a fungus that usually causes disintegration of organic matter. These fungi can be found in a home or outside of a home. There are thousands of different species of fungi. The mold tends to grow in warm and humid environments. Once the mold spreads, now there is the question of what steps need to be taken to remove the mold.

There are several options available in the mold removal process. A mold inspection needs to be done, before deciding what option to use to eliminate the mold. One of the most effective ways to remove mold is by using bleach. Bleach is very good at killing nearly every species of mold in your home. It also kills the spores and it leaves a sanitized surface. The fumes in bleach are very harsh. It is important that the area to be cleaned is well ventilated before starting the mold removal process. It is important to wear gloves so that the hands are protected. Remember to put one cup of bleach per gallon of water used to kill the mold. Use a bottle of spray or a bucket and sponge to kill the surface with the mold. If the area being cleaned is where food is prepared, be sure to rinse afterwards. The bleach will prevent future mold growth.

Unfortunately bleach cannot totally kill mold growing in porous materials like wood or drywall. This is when you turn to borax. Borax does not emit the same chemical or very dangerous fumes like other mold removal applications. Use a scrub brush and clean the area where the mold is. Vinegar has mild acid. It kills about 82% species of mold. Vinegar is also natural and safe to use. The vinegar can be poured into a spray bottle without watering it down. Spray the mold affected area and leave it for an hour. Then wipe the area down. Do a mold inspection to make sure the mold is removed.

If these different options fail, call a mold removal service. They can do a mold remediation and give options on what to do next.
